Movies are looking for audiences in the millions - hundreds of
millions worldwide in the best-case scenario. Scientific
literacy is just not that high in the U.S. Movies are movies,
games are games, comics are comics. Games have not "exceeded"
movies in any way other then financial. Movies are "rented" by
downloading the movie to your computer through the iTunes
store. The movie, however, is erased from your computer in 24
hours.
Movies are the key here, much more than HDTV,
which is available for free over air (hence the lack of a tuner
in the Mac Mini. Besides, viewers will tolerate non-real-time
movie downloads -- as long as they take less time than driving
to Blockbuster and back -- but they won't wait for the evening
news to download. Movies are already on thier way to the same
level as music downloading…its easy to get them, so why not?
Penn State recently put up a firewall in the dorms that was
supposed to disable filesharing programs like Kazaa. Movies are
available in both the Quicktime (.mov) and Video for Windows
(.avi) formats. Click on the desired format to run the selected
movie.
